In 1982, Art Tibbits was diagnosed with immunological reaction overload, specifically, acute environmental hypersensitivity to all synthetics; an illness associated with Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). Like many others, Mr. Tibbits’ condition became so severe he was given only year to live in current condition.Taking his life into his own hands and understanding the severity of this relatively unknown disease, Mr. Tibbits inspired by the ambition to help others like himself, designed and built the first Tibbits air purification system to get control over indoor air quality. The machine was made to be free of any materials that would cause an allergic reaction. The systems used specific filters and carbon to extract the dust, mold, bacteria and gasses present in air.
After a few years of producing a handful of other machines for people suffering from the same respiratory conditions Mr. Tibbits took on the full time job of creating a product and a business to provide people with the same great quality of life (air) that he had built for himself; managing to keep the business growing and maintaining his loyal following of customers through the regular filter replacements of his incredible clean air systems.
In 2004, Art Tibbits made the decision to shut down the business as the stress accompanied by deteriorating health all became too much. At the time, Tony Steddy had been working with Art for a little over a year and getting to know the customers and having a son who suffered from asthma and certain chemical sensitivities, Tony understood the purpose and path that had been placed in front of him. Under the new name, Medi-Air Inc Tony Steddy officially launched the business and has since grown it into the thriving company it is today - with the help of his son Kris.
